Privacy Policy

Second Wind is an iOS app that gives you one short, original message a day — written to be read aloud in about thirty seconds — chosen for the mood you check in with. It also has a private journal. To pick well it needs to know a little about what you are dealing with, and that deserves to be explained in plain language. This is it.

The short version. There is no sign-up: no email, no password, no name required. We store the answers you give during setup and which messages you have been shown, so the app can pick the next one and keep your streak. Your journal never leaves your phone — not to us, not to anyone. We show no ads, we sell nothing, and no part of what you write is ever sent to an AI. You can delete everything from inside the app.

What we store

An anonymous ID

The app signs you in anonymously. That gives your phone a random identifier so your plan and streak survive a reinstall. It is not linked to your name, your email, or your Apple Account, and we cannot use it to identify you.

What you tell us during setup

What you are working on (for example career, recovery, parenting)
The season you say you are in, and the tone you want to be spoken to in
Whether you want secular, Christian, or broadly spiritual content
What time of day you would like your reminder
Your device's time zone, so "today" means your today
A first name or nickname, if you choose to type one — this is optional and can be left blank

How you use the app

Which messages you have been shown and when, so the same one does not come back too soon
The mood you check in with each day, and which message it produced
Your daily streak and the last day you opened the app
Whether you have an active subscription

What stays only on your phone

Some things are deliberately never uploaded. They are written to your device's storage, protected by iOS encryption whenever your phone is locked:

Everything in your journal — what you write, the mood and intensity you record, and the dates
Your journal passcode, if you set one. The code itself is never stored anywhere; only a salted cryptographic hash of it is kept, in the iOS Keychain, so it cannot be read back out
Your mood check-in history used to colour the journal calendar

Because the journal is only on your phone, we cannot recover it for you. If you delete the app or lose the device, it is gone. You can export it to plain text at any time from the Journal settings.

What we never collect

No email address or password — there is no account to create
No location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or health data
No advertising identifiers, and no advertising SDKs of any kind
No payment details. Apple handles all billing; we only ever learn whether a subscription is active

No AI reads your data

The messages in the app were written by people. Choosing which one to show you happens entirely on your phone, using a fixed set of rules — nothing about you is sent to any AI service to make that decision, and your journal is not analysed by anything, anywhere.

Who else is involved

Google Firebase stores the anonymous ID and the setup answers described above, on our behalf, as a data processor. Apple handles subscriptions and tells the app whether yours is active.

The app also currently includes Google Analytics for Firebase, which records general usage — app opens, screens viewed, device model, and an approximate region derived from your IP address. It is not used for advertising and does not track you across other apps or websites.

Notifications

Your daily reminder is scheduled by your own phone at the time you picked. Nothing is sent from a server, and we do not know whether you opened it. You can turn notifications off in iOS Settings at any time.

Deleting your data

Open You → Delete my data in the app. That removes your setup answers, history, and streak from our records, and clears the journal from your device. You can also email supportsecondwind@gmail.com and we will do it for you. We keep what is listed above only for as long as you keep using the app.

Children

Second Wind is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and say so in the app before the change takes effect.
